George Shedd Kimball was born in Rindge March 1st 1839 the son of William and Ruthy (Shedd) Kimball. He married in March 1860 Caroline M. Bancroft the daughter of Deacon James and Sarah (Kendall) Bancroft. He enlisted in the 6th NH Vol. Infantry, Co. K, October 28th 1861. The 6th NH took part in General Burnside's Cape Hatteras Expedition, prior to disembarking a number of the local soldiers were taken sick with the measles, George was among them. He died of disease in Annapolis MD January 18th 1862. His widow died September 12th 1865. Their two children died young.
