DETROIT - Alton R. Sanderson, 69, Detroit, passed away on Wednesday January 18, 2012.
Born on February 5, 1942, he was the son of the late Dewey and Eula Sanderson. He served in the U.S. Army. He worked at International Harvester in Rock Island, IL., for 22 years, then worked at Navistar International Trucks in Springville, Ohio, for 13 years. He also worked as a bus driver for the Marion County School System for seven years. He served as a deacon at Victory Baptist Church in East Moline, IL., for eight years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hackleburg, AL., and served as an Adult Sunday School teacher for 10 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-brother Phillip Ferguson.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years - Lillie Lenora Sanderson; brother Rayburn (Jewell) Sanderson; sister-in-law - Barbara Ferguson; children - Debra (Michael) Suess, Richard Sanderson, Roger (Sharon) Sanderson and Wendy (David) Hamilton; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Hamilton Funeral Home directed the services.
