Joe Adelstein, 92, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, May 18, 2006, at his residence. A son of the late Samuel and Ida Goldberg Adelstein, Joe was born December 17, 1913, in New Philadelphia. He was a 1932 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. Following High School Joe worked at and managed the former Ashwood Bowling Lanes.

He was a WWII veteran having served with the United States Army Air Corps. Joe owned and operated the Adelstein Metal Company and Betsy's Collectibles in New Philadelphia. He was a member of the Euclid Heights Temple in Cleveland, O, a life member of the Dover VFW Post 3463 and had been a member of the former New Philadelphia American Legion.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty E. McConnell Adelstein, who died in 1997.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 22, 2006 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rabbi John Spitzer of Temple Israel, in Canton officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park with military honors provided by the Dover VFW.

A memorial reception will be held in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home following the committal. Memorial contributions in Joe's memory are suggested to Hospice of Tuscarawas County.
