Two of Alston and Nancy's daughters, Lora and Kitty (M. L.) were separated from their husbands and were living with them along with their children. Lora had two sons: Ovid Oscar Adams (1875-1972) and William Hunter Adams (1877- ). Kitty had one daughter: Linda B. Kennedy (1877- ). This made for a busy household.
On 11 October 1883, Alston lost Nancy. Some of the children were still very young, so on 11 Sept. 1888, Alston married Sarah E McGriff. This union produced one child, Shaler H. A. Howell (1889-1957).
Alston passed on 13 May 1908 and is buried next to Nancy and their child Leodah Cumi Howell in the Mount Gilliad Methodist Church Cemetery.
