CLARK- Frank J. Clark, 89, of San Gabriel, CA, died April 27, 2011, at Monrovia Memorial Hospital of complications following a hip fracture. He was born on April 2, 1922, in Muncie, IN, the son of Ray W. and Sarah R. Clark. He grew up in Muncie, and attended college at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, where he received a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Aug 1943. He then enlisted in the Army, serving in the Signal Corps and attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. He completed active duty in Sept 1946, and returned to Purdue University as an Instructor in Engineering and for graduate education, receiving a Master of Engineering degree in Aug 1948. He then went West, joining the Faculty of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles as an Instructor in Electrical Engineering. After 2 years at USC, he made the move to the aeronautical industry, and joined Hughes Aircraft Co in 1950, where he began a distinguished career in radar and guidance systems for both aircraft flight and missile tracking. He worked with Hughes Aircraft Co until 1955, when he moved to Lockheed Aircraft Corp where he worked on radar and guidance systems for both the P3 Anti-Submarine aircraft series and the F-104 fighter. In 1984, he moved to Northrop Aircraft where his expertise was applied to the B-2 Stealth Bomber. He retired in 1995, and pursued his interests in woodworking, expanded his activities at Lake Avenue Church where he served for several years as Treasurer of the Mariners Sunday School Class, and enjoyed time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Wilma E. Clark, his son, Richard V. Clark, MD, of Durham, NC by his first marriage to Patricia M. Hoos, Wilma's children, Donna L. Finlayson of San Gabriel, CA, Ronald R. Howard of Ukiah, CA, and Shirley G. Snelling of Covina, CA, his brothers, Robert M. Clark, MD, and Charles R. Clark both of Muncie, IN, and his grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Clark of Seattle, WA, Lewis P. Barnett of San Dimas, CA, and Steven F. Barnett of Covina, CA, and his great-grandson, Parker J. Barnett of San Dimas, CA.
