George R. Striker, 84, of South Buffalo Township, Armstrong County, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2012, in the ER of Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, East Franklin Township. He was born Feb. 22, 1928, in the Karns Section of Harriston Township, the son of the late Raymond A. Striker and Nelda M. (Butler) Striker, and lived most of his life in South Buffalo Township. He was a foreman at the former Daugherty's Heating and Air Conditioning, in Freeport, for many years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. Mr. Striker was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Natrona Heights, Local No. 12 Sheet Metal Journeymen, and a member of the VFW, Eagles and White Star Club, all of Freeport. He graduated from Freeport High School. He enjoyed family and friends, hunting, fishing, boating, flying with his friends, billiards, dancing, music, playing cards and bird watching. He was known as the "Tin Man" on his CB radio. He also enjoyed escorting "oversized loads" with his daughter, Darlene. Survivors include his daughters, Cynthia G. Striker, of South Buffalo Township, and Darlene J. (Stanley) Colcombe, of South Buffalo Township; grandsons, Shawn P. Norris, of Brackenridge, Noel L. Norris, of Allegheny Township, and Heath R. (Jody) Singer, of Freeport; granddaughters, Georgina D. Adsitt, of Lancaster, and Heather J. (Bryan) Vaughan, of Buffalo Township; great-grandsons, Brandon Michael, Logan Tyler and Mason Hunter; brother, Richard A. (Jane) Striker, of Chicora; and beloved pet, Donder. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Joyce Diana (Welsh) Striker, Jan. 26, 2010; and brother, Herbert L. Striker, killed in action in World War II. At the request of the family there will be no visitation. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday, March, 24, 2012, in Grace United Methodist Church, Natrona Heights, by the Rev. Justin R. Judy, his pastor.
