George Henry Borntrager, 87, of Van Buren, Arkansas, died Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

He was born June 19, 1922, in Prescott, Michigan, and retired as a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy after 22 1/2 years, including service in World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Following his retirement from the Navy, he was employed as an ejection seat repair foreman at NARF North Island Naval Air Station until his federal service retirement in 1983. Mr. Borntrager was a member of the American Legion and Fleet Reserve Association.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Borntrager, of Van Buren, Arkansas; two sons, John Borntrager and his wife, Diane of Van Buren, Arkansas, and Robert Borntrager and his wife, Denise of Chula Vista; one sister, Wanda Baldwin and her husband, George of Murietta, Calif.; two grandchildren, Melissa Place of Edinburgh, Texas, and Shanna Zielstra and husband Scott, of Conway, Arkansas; as well as one stepgreat-grandson, Payton Zielstra of Conway, Arkansas, and nieces and nephews.

Services were held in Alma, Arkansas. His ashes will be scattered at sea by the U.S. Navy.
