Max was a 1937 graduate of Manual High School and lifelong Indianapolis resident. He married Blanhalice Barrett on October 23, 1942. Max served stateside in the U.S. Army during WWII, before settling in Pike Township. In 1946 his independant nature led him to start his own business, Metzler Home Maintenance, which soon became Metzler Plumbing.
Max was active in the community, joining the Pike Lions Club in 1956. He was their last living charter member. He served as a Trustee at Bethel United Methodist Church and participated in several mission trips with his current wife, Jane. Max was a long time member of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors' Association and served as resident of the Indiaapolis chapter in 1966-67.
He leaves a wife, nine children, 22 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
