MAIDEN - Sarah Kathryn Huitt, 90, of Abernethy Retirement Center, died Oct. 18, 2000, at Abernethy Retirement Center. Born Jan. 2, 1910, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Lester and Hattie Setzer Huitt.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II [and the Korean Conflict & Peace Keeping which was from 1950 to 1955], she was a matron with the Federal Prison System.
She was preceded in death by a brother John A. Huitt; and two sisters, Mary Shuford and Eugenia Caldwell.
Survivors include seven nephews and nieces, Marlyn Hewitt and Gerald Caldwell of Claremont, Gayle Wilfong of Florida, Johnny Hewitt of Matthews, William Hewitt of Albemarle, Donna Caldwell of Jamestown and Joe Caldwell of Monroe.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Scott Bollinger at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Claremont. [The text used was Isaiah 25: 6-9; Romans 8: 31-35, 37-39; John 14: 1-6.] Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family wil be at the church one hour prior to the service. Burke Mortuaries Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
