Helen A. Mapes, age 84, died on Saturday, October 31, 1987. She was born on December 21, 1902, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, the daughter of J.H.C. and Sophia (Eberhardt) Buerstatte. She was married to Lloyd A. Mapes on February 14, 1937. She was a graduate of Manitowoc High School, and attended the Chicago Art Institute. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Daughters of the Nile, the White Shrine, the Order of Eastern Star Monona Chapter #5, the order of Amaranth, and the Madison Elks Club #410. She is survived by a sister, Dorothy M. (Simer) Josephson of West Allis; a sister-in-law, Mirium (Thomas) Buerstatte of Manitowoc; and nieces and nephew. Mary Hanson of Mt. Prospect, Illinois, Dr. Thomas Josephson of Madison, Carolyn Jeske of Muskego, Wisconsin, and Dr. Richard Josephson of Wauwautosa, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; two brothers, Thomas E., and Benjamin F. Buerstatte. CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, at 3:00 p.m., on Tuesday, November 3, 1987. Entombment will be in Forest Hill Mausoleum. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until time of service on Tuesday. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
