Lloyd A. Mapes, age 77, of 15 North Third Street, died on Wednesday, November 28, 1985, at a local hospital. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. Mr. Mapes was a retired Army Major, having served during World War II. After his career in the military he was an official with the federal government, retiring in 1972. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Commonwealth Lodge #325, Madison's Scottish Rite Bodies, Madison York Rite Bodies, Zor Shrine, White Shrine, the Madison Elk's Lodge #410, and American Legion Post 3553. He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Buerstatte. He was preceded in death by his brother, Roy. Funeral services will be held at the CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 1985. The Reverend Joan C. Deming will officiate. He will be intombed at Forest Hill Mausoleum. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29, at the funeral home, where a masonic service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of donor's choice.
