Hiram Everst Fay was one of the United States pioneers in the westward population starting in 1860 , Born iin new yourk he had travaled west into the Ohio Valley. In 1861 he resided in Wisconsin, where he first attempted his enlistment into the Union Army during the Civil War. Early in the war his age may have been a factor in not completing the attempt. He successfully Enlisted as a Private on 21 October 1864 at the age of 19 and was assigned to Company M; Iowa 1st Calvary Regiment. He Mustered Out from the same unit on 24 Oct 1865.

On December 2, 1866 he wed Mary Elizabeth 'Libbey' Knowlton, in the town of Decorah, Iowa, USA .Thier first 2 daughters
Myrtle Alida Fay(1868) & Jennie Lestina Fay(1870) were born in Wisconsin, Jackson, Minnesota,USA. The 3rd daughter born to this couple who lived to adulthood was Bessie Deborah Fay(1877) born in Bluffton,Iowa,USA.

There are 3 daughters [Grace Fay, Leuella Violet Fay & Lizzie May Fay] for this couple who apparently never lived long enough to be listed in any of the State or Federal Census Records after 1886. Mary Elizabeth 'Libbey' Knowlton FAY passed away September 18 ,1879 in Baldwin, St Croix, Wisconsin, United States as well as an infant daughter at that time.



On 7 April 1880 he married Mary A. Atwood in in Baldwin, St Croix, Wisconsin, United States. Hiram and his new bride kept his oldest daughters Myrtle & Jennie to raise. The youngest living daughter was placed in the care of her aunt Sarah Jane Knowlton Houck .

There are 2 living daughters of this marriage Kate Fay (1882) born in Hampton, Wisconsin, United States & Susie Lenora Fay(1885) born in Rockford, Illinois, USA . Newspaper record of the time reflect a happy family well loved in their community. They also remark of a 3rd child who has never shown on any State or Federal Census Records from 1880 afterward. In her Obituary in the 06 April 1887 Rockford, Illinois, Daily Gazette Story it informed that the family had moved to Conejos, Colorado, United States for her health conditions and had seemed to Improve a bit before passing away on march 30, 1887. According to the 1900 United States Federal Census the family was still in Colorado.

By the time of the 1910 United States Federal Census the family was in the Seattle ,King County, Washington area. Susie Lenora Fay wed Porter Hezekiah Sprague on May 5, 1908. Kate Fay was wed to Earl William Rix and had 2 children Hiram (1909) & Cora(1910).

On 13 September 1909 Hiram wed his final wife Sarah Jane Atkinson in Seattle ,King County, Washington . They remained there happily married until her death in 1931, Upon his death in 1932 her cremated remains and his remains were returned for burial in the Fay family'' plots in Hammond, ST. Croix County Wisconsin.
