Formerly known as Sister St. Madeleine, she professed 69 years of religious vows.
Born in Bromptonville, Quebec, Sr. Elmire was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Pamela (Bernier) Bourgault. Her siblings have also predeceased her. She became a naturalized citizen in 1930 and taught the primary grades for 48 years before coming to the Assumption residence where she performed community services and was given to the Prayer Ministry.
Sr. Elmire leaves beloved nieces and nephews and several grand - nieces and grandnephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in the Assumption residence chapel. Burial will be in the East Cemetery. Calling hours at the Assumption residence are Sunday, from 2 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Assumption Retirement Fund, P.O. Box 128, Petersham, MA 01366.
