William J. "Billy" Wilkins volunteered to serve in the Confederate Army on June 1, 1861 along with his nephew William H. Wilkins. He served until the end of the war and was present at Appomattox Court House when Gen. Robert E. Lee surrendered to Gen. Grant. Billy was given his parole pass after the stacking of arms and walked home like thousands of others to his farm at Sandy Ridge. He married Mary Ann "Polly Ann" Gann just a few weeks after coming home and together they had four sons and two daughters. Billy died on January 29, 1919 at the age of 82.∼H/O Mary A. Gann

Gravesite Details
According to Billy's grandson, Troy Matthew Wilkins, Billy was buried in this cemetery but no headstone was ever installed. Death certificate states place of burial as "Family Graveyard."
