Lola Opal Johnston, 89, rural Zearing, died of cancer, Monday Jan. 4, at Mary Greeley Mediacal Center. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday Jan. 8, @ Bethel United Methodist Church, Zearing, with Rev. Jeff Carter Officating, and burial in the Zearing Cemetery.

Lola McBride was born Dec. 4, 1898, in Nevada, to Jacob & Clara (Conner) McBride.

Lola was a 1917 graduate of Nevada High School and taught school @ Shipley and also at Maple Hill rural school until her marriage.

On Aug. 24, 1921 Lola married Blayney Johnston in Marshalltown. The couple farmed near Zearing all their lives.

Lola was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, and Women's Circle.

Survivors include one son, Dean Johnston of rural Zearing; one daughter, Marilyn Reuber of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; 4 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 7, at Fredregill Funeral Home, Zearing, with the family present from 7-9 p.m. tonight.
