David Blain Woods was born on 11 Aug 1876 in McNairy, Tennessee, USA as the first child of John W. Woods and Fady Louisa Putman. He had seven siblings, namely: Joseph Cunningham, James Garfield, Lucretia C., Mary Thankful, Florence, John Sherman, and Thomas Harrison. He died on 18 Jun 1951 at age 74 in Center, Shelby, Texas, USA.

Folk Lore is that when he was 12 years old he overheard his father; John Woods, talking to another man about selling him as an indentured servant for one year. That night he stole a mule and went to East Texas, Center, and Shelby County, Texas. Other stories are that he went to Texas in a covered wagon with other family members.

Sometime after arriving in East Texas he stepped on a thorn and got blood poising in his left foot. They had to cut his left leg off below the knee.

He met and married Ida Fay Maxwell on 3 May 1898. They owned and operated a General Merchandise store in East Center. During the great depression they went bankrupt.

He was also a Tax Assessor and Tax Collector for the State of Texas.
