Lester L. Higgins Jr., 64, of LaGrange,MO and formerly of Hannibal, MO, died at 12:09 AM Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal.

Funeral Services will be at 1:30 PM Monday, March 19, 2012 at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Rev. Michael Stoerger will officiate. Burial with full military rites by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of services Monday at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.

Mr. Higgins Jr. was born January 20, 1948, in Hannibal, MO to Lester Lee Higgins Sr. and Helen Marie Moore Higgins.

He was previously married to Gerry Clark. She survives. He was later married to Susan Heckle on May 10, 1991 in Fowler, IL. She survives.

Other survivors include 2 children, Bryan Higgins of Columbia, MO, Morgan Higgins of Quincy, IL, 1 Brother, Jack Higgins of Frankford, MO, 1 sister in law, Donna Jean Higgins of Hannibal, MO, 2 aunts, Beatrice Moore of Hannibal, MO, Etta Higgins Glueck of Hannibal, MO, 2 grandchildren, Bryan and Tucker Higgins and several nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother; Russell Higgins, 2 infant brothers; Michael Eugene and Harold Fredrick, 1 sister; Connie Sue O'Brien and his grandparents and many aunts and uncles.

Lester retired from the Corp. of Engineers. Mr. Higgins was a U S Army Veteran. He served during Vietnam as a medic in the 1st infantry, earning a Bronze Star medal with V- device for valor, an additional Bronze Star, Army Air Medal and an Army Commendation Medal. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge of Hannibal, MO and American Legion Post # 55. He enjoyed his pets and was a special dad to his cats, Sadi, Kiki and Simba. Most of all Lester enjoyed sharing a cold beer with his friends and family.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lester Lee Higgins Jr. Memorial for volunteer caregivers to veterans in care of the James O'Donnell Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Donald Heckle, Bryan Higgins, Jack Higgins Jr., Gary Higgins, David Waelder, and Alan Waelder. Honorary Brothers will be Ron Walley, Bruce Studer, Steve McCann, and John Graves.
