Shirley was born at home in Anderson, Indiana on September 30, 1933 to her loving parents Tyner and Ina Mae Holt.
She married her life long partner and best friend Walter Alford on June 26, 1953. Walter was received in heaven on May 4, 2004. Shirley also has a grandson Gary Adam McConnell waiting for his grandmother since his passing in July of 2006.
Shirley was a graduate of Greenfield High School and worked at Western Electric until becoming a mother to the 1st of her three daughters, Connie Jo Alford of Greenfield, Cynthia Lee Alford-Foster of Greenfield and Sharrie Lin Alford-McConnell of Willow Branch. After raising her daughters to their teens, Shirley returned to work in 1974 for the Greenfield-Central Schools where she was a "grandmother" to many students and retired after 33 years of service in 2007. Shirley is also survived by a brother, Dr. Richard Holt of San Antonio, TX; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one niece; one nephew; seven great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel in Greenfield. Burial will follow at Eden Cemetery in Greenfield. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.
