Mrs. Mabel Abel
Mrs. Mabel Abel, 74, an early day homesteader in Montana, died yesterday in Spokane and funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Hazen & Jaeger's.
Mrs. Abel, who had lived here since 1940, twice saw her home burn down and temporarily raised her family in a hut made of sod on their Montana ranch.
The Abels moved west from Peoria, Illinois, and she reared 11 children, two of whom preceded her in death. Four of her sons served in World War II and she was a member of the Navy Mother's Club and the Seventh Day Adventist Church here.
Among survivors in this area are a daughter, Mrs. Paul Hoeler, and son, J. A. Abel, both of Spokane. Mrs. Abel preferred to live alone and had an apartment at N2124 Ash.
