Ruth V. Hurt, 80. died at 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 1998 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 1998 at the Markwell & Son Funeral Home in Casey with the Dr. Mark Kaley officiating. Interment will be held in the Casey/Cumberland Cemetery. A visitation service will be held tonight, Monday, October 26, 1998 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ruth Hurt was born on January 6, 1918, in Palestine, the daughter of Clarence E. Dauwalder and Sadie H. (Delzell) Dauwalder. She married Earl 0. Hurt of Casey on December 23, 1939 at the Methodist Church in Washington, Indiana. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1990.

Survivors include two sons, Larry M. Hurt of Casey and Chris Hurt and his wife Becky of West Lafayette, Ind.; one daughter, Charlotte Royal and her husband Tom of Charleston; two granddaughters, Lisa M. Clancy of Bloomington. Ind. and Lori L. Royal of Charleston; four grandsons, Andrew, Jarrod, Nathan and Taylor Hurt of West Lafayette, Ind.; eight nephews';and six nieces. Also surviving are two sisters of Earl Hurt, Doris Sweet of Casey; Janice Wallace of Casey: and one brother and sister-in- law. Phillip and Imogene Hurt of Martinsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers. John Harvey Dauwalder, Raymond Dauwalder and Paul Dauwalder; and one sister, Marjorie “Dauwalder” Hayes.

Ruth Hurt lived her young school-age years on a farm near Palestine with her parents, three brothers and one sister. She-attended school in the Palestine area, and graduated from the Palestine High School in 1935. She attended Business School in Evansville, Ind. and worked as a record keeper for Texaco, Inc. in Lawrenceville, 111. prior to her marriage. In the 1970’s and the 1980’s, Ruth was employed at different times at several Casey businesses, including: W.H. Turner IH: Hutton Parts and Service, Central Lumber Company, and McGinness Building Suppliers.

Ruth and Earl lived most of their married life with their three children on their farm two miles south of Casey. They retired in 1974 due to Earl's failing health, and moved into Casey in 1981.

Ruth was an active member of the Casey United Methodist Church, the Casey Day Extension Homemakers, and the Casey Senior Center Kazoo Band. She had also been a local Hospice Volunteer.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Casey United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, Hospice of Lincolnland or to a charity of donor's choice.
