Michael B. Valyo Sr., 78, of 85 N. Main St., died Saturday in Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ann's Church, with the Rev. Paul Worczak, pastor, presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fulton. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Buck Funeral Home. Surviving are his wife, Rose; three sons, Michael D. Jr., Charleston, S.C., James, Dover, N.H., and Jeffrey, Mooresville, N.C.; a daughter, Mrs. James (Alice) VanDerMerr, Las Vegas, Nev.; eight grandchildren; a brother, Joseph, Reading, Pa.; three sisters, Ann Tirpak, Lock Haven, Pa., and Rose Higley and Agnes Boykin, both of Renova, Pa., and several nephews and nieces. Born in Bituman, Pa., on Dec. 5, 1915, a son of George and Mary Hritz Valyo , he married Rose C. Ditoro Caveller. Mr. Valyo served with the Navy during World War II in the Pacific theater. He was employed with Case Hoyt Co., Rochester, as a lithographic artist.
