Denison Leader October 24, 1900
Died. Mrs. Dr. C. W. Buffon, Friday evening October 10, 1900 of paralysis.

Mrs. Buffon was born in Staffordshire, England June 30th, 1841. She came to America six years later with her parents. In 1856 she came to Kansas and resided in this community. She was one of the early Public School teachers of this county, being among the first. She was married to Dr. C. W. Buffon in 1872 who, with a son and daughter lived to mourn her decease. She united with the Christian Church in 1879 and remained a member of that church to her death. The funeral service were held Sunday morning in the Christian Church by Rev. R. V. Leason and the remains were laid to rest in South Cedar Cemetery. The sympathy of the community go out to the family in this their hour of sorrow.
-------

Mary Elizabeth married first George H Ross, son of Simon Ross Jr. and Cynthia Emily Bragdon Ross on December 4, 1865 in Holton, Jackson, Kansas. George was a wagon master on the Santa Fe Trail and was often absent from home. They had three children, one of whom, a daughter named Ellen, survived. Mary Elizabeth divorced George on September 19, 1872. Twelve days later, she married Dr. C. W. Buffon.

The obituaries do not mention Mary Elizabeth's brother, Edmund Bickley, who lived in the same community. It is probable that because of the divorce, the siblings were not on speaking terms.
