Mrs. GEO. Smith DEAD
Passed Away Very Suddenly at Her Home
Last Evening
Mrs. George M. Smith passed peacefully to the realms beyond last evening at 11 o'clock at her home in this village. She bad been in apparently good health up to within half an hour of her death and her taking away was therefore a heavy shock to her husband and other relatives.
Mrs. Smith was born in Brownville, Maine, and had reached the age of 74 years. With her husband she came to Princeton in 1870 and lived here continuously to the time of her of her death.
She is survived by a husband, George M. Smith, and seven children. The children are Mrs. Eva Keith, Charles, Fred and John Smith, Princeton: Mrs. Harry Newton, Seattle; Merton Smith, Wilton; and Mrs. Bert Wetsel, Spokane.
Arrangements for the funeral not as yet been perfected.
Mrs. Smith was an affectionate wife and mother and a good neighbor and beloved by all who knew her.
Princeton Union FEBRUARY 18, 1909
Funeral services over the remains of Mrs. George Smith were held at the family residence on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock and Rev. J. W. Heard, pastor of the Methodist church, of which Mrs. Smith was a member, delivered an eloquent and touching oration extolling the many virtues of that good christian woman. A quartet consisting of Miss Lundquist, Mrs. Briggs, Guy Ewing and Fremont Woodcock sang some very appropriate and impressive hymns and there were
many pretty offerings in the shape of floral wreaths. The interment was in Oak Knoll cemetery and many relatives and friends of Mrs. Smith, including a number of Grand Army and M. N. G. members, followed the remains to their last resting place.
The honorary pallbearers consisted of F. A. Lowell, Wm. H. Townsend, David Whitcomb and A. Z. Norton, of the G. A. R.; while the active pallbearers were Sergeants Bullis, Byers
and Carr, Corporals Steinbach and Pittsley and Private Brace, of Company G, Minnesota National Guard.
With one exception—that of Merton Smith of Wilton—all of Mrs. Smith's childeren. viz., Mrs. Eva Keith, Charles, Fred and John Smith, Princeton; Mrs. Harry Newton, Seattle, and Mrs. Bert Wetsel, Spokane, were in attendance at the obsequies.
