JOHN DAVID EILER PASSES AWAY SUDDENLY; WIFE FINDS HIS BODY. A few moments after he arrived home from a grocery store where he had gone to purchase groceries. John David Eiler, aged 59 years, droped in the yard in the rear of his residence, 626 South 17 1/2 street, at about 9:15 p.m., Saturday. His sudden demise greatly shocked members of his family, nearly all of whom were at home at the time. Deputy Coroner Dr. E.F. White was notified, and, following an investigation, rendered a certificate of death due to apoplexy. Undertaker Lutz took charge of the body. A short time brfore his death, the deceased was prepparing a sandwich. The breadknife he was using during this process needed sharpening. with the utensil in one of his hands, he proceeded to the yard with the intention of sharpening it. He had only gone a few steps from the door, when his wife, Sarah (nee Reedy) Eiler, who was in another part of the yard, heard a sharp thud. At first she thought some one had dropped something in the house. Becoming alarmed, she proceeded to enter the house, when she suddenly came across the prostrate from of her husband. When she reached him he had passed away. The discovery completely unnerved her, as it was only a few moments before that she had spoken to him, and at that time he was in a good mood. According to members of the family the deceased had never suffered any serious illness at any time during his life. He was a man of powerful physique. He weighed over 230 pounds. Mr. Eiler was born in this city and lived here all his life. He was a barber by trade, but had not followed this occupation for eight years. Besides his widow, there survive four children, William, Reading; Marks, Abraham and Eva Eiler, all at home; three sisters, Ella, wife of William Hyneman; Mrs. Lillie Good, Reading, and Mrs. Katie Reinert, Kutztown; also one stepsister Mrs. Emma Shortt, Lebanon.
