In 1867, he and his wife and some of his children debarked from Hamburg, Germany, aboard the "Bavaria" and arrived in New York on May 31, 1867. They first settled near Lutherville, Arkansas, according to daughter Ernestine's obituary.
In the 1880 Census for Bruce, Benton County, Iowa, he is a widower, age 69, and in his household is son, Henry (26), daughter Ernestine (15) and his brother John F Brenneisen (67). This brother came to the USA at the same time of his brother.
According to Ernestine's obituary, she was the youngest of 8 children born to Jakob & Anna Maria. I believe Anna Maria must have died in Arkansas or between Arkansas and Iowa, as I am unable to locate any records on her. And their first-born child, Rebekka, appears to have stayed in Germany and married Joseph Riesterer in 1869.
Jakob & Anna Maria Brenneisen were my great-great grandparents.
