The couple was married at the Mt Pleasant Friends Meetinghouse then returned to Minnesota where their two oldest children were born. Upon the death of Selma's father, they returned to live on the Taber farm. By 1912 they had settled in Damascus and had joined the Springfield Meeting. They were members of the Springfield Meeting, adjacent to the cemetery, where Carroll was the sexton and managed the cemetery and burials. They lived at 29053 Walnut which is right across from the Wilbur School and Meetinghouse in Damascus.
