Ex-Senator F. N. Godfrey Died Sunday
Prominent Olean Citizen Had Been In Failing Health for Several Months

Ex-Senator Frank N. Godfrey died Sunday night at 8 o'clock in the Higgins Memorial hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for six weeks. Mr. Godfrey had been in Failing health since the death of his wife January 24, 1924.

Frank N. Godfrey was born on a farm in Pleasant Valley June 29, 1851(sic), and had lived on the same farm his entire lifetime. He was prominent throughout the state in politics and in anything for the betterment of the community he was thoroughly interested and a ready helper.

Mr. Godfrey served as New York state senator from 1913 to 1914. He was chairman of the executive committee of the National Grange from 1908 to 1912. He served as appraiser of the Federal Land Bank for three years and was county deputy for several years. In 1907 he was master of the State Grange and was charter member of the Olean Grange. Mr. Godfrey was said to be the oldest member of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Olean and was president of that church.

Surviving him are his daughter, Mrs. Wesley Young of Cherry Creek; three grandchildren; four brothers, E.D. Godfrey, Washington, D.C.; I.M. Godfrey, Olean; E.N. Godfrey, Salamanca; Frederick N. Godfrey, Boston, Mass.; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Osterhoudt, Westons.

Burial will be made in Pleasant Valley.
