David Tutje wrote in his family history the following information (at one time in the possession of Audley Weston):

William J. Davis enlisted and fought in the Civil War, was captured and imprisoned in Andersonville, was released at the end of the war and came home and died in the arms of his fiance within the year. This romantic story was confirmed by by cemetery record, Center Grove Cemetery in Union Twp., Story County. Will is in the first grave in row 13 of the south section next to five graves of the Groseclose family.
