Lucy C. Fields was teaching in District #18 Butka about the time she was married to James Butka.
She taught a three-month term for $20 per month.
Lucy C. Fields also taught a term in District #17 Loup County.

C.H. Fields (Lucy's father) was the Loup County Treasurer in Taylor, Loup County, Nebraska, from approximately 1889 to 1892.

C.H. Fields' wife is listed as Phebe Myers Fields and they were listed as married in 1869 in Iowa.
I show their children and birth dates listed as S.B., 1866; M.C., 1879; and L.A., 1883.
We show Lucy's name as Lucy Charlotte Fields.
(The Fields children's names and dates of birth came from the school census records of School District #5 Taylor, Nebraska from the 1880s.)

Phoebe was listed as the first teacher in Loup County, Nebraska and taught three months for $20. (?)
(I don't know about Mrs. Myers Fields being the first teacher in Loup County. We had teachers here as early as 1876 before the county was organized but was under the jurisdiction of Valley County at the time. -Kevin Brown, President of Loup County Historic Society.)

1890-1891: Phoebe L. Myers (Fields) was listed in the Business Directory for 1890-1891 in Taylor, Loup County, Nebraska:
"Mrs. C. H. Fields Millinery." (The GAZETTE of Nebraska lists Mrs. Fields as in the millinery business.)

James Butka (son-in-law) and Francis "Frank" B. Butka (James' brother) were listed in the Farmers list for 1890-1891. (The Farmers List is on-line for 1890-1891on our Loup County website and that's where that information came from.)

C. H. Fields was elected Treasurer of Loup County, Nebraska and Frank Butka was a member of the first Board of Education and James Butka was later added as a member of the Board of Education.

1894: The Butkas and the Fields moved from Loup County, Nebraska, and never returned.

5 Sep 1903: Phebe Fields bought lot 28 Oakvale Ceshe on 5 Sept, 1903.
Located in Kingfisher County, Oklahoma. The Buckmasters checked into selling it in 1961--apparently it was not used by the Fields. I thought this was the cemetery she might be buried in.
But it is more likely she bought it for her father who presumably died here about this time.
See red herring note below; cemetery is in wrong county for her burial per Phoebe's Death Certificate.

Note: AVARD.
The Woods County town of Avard is located in Township 26 North, Range 15 West, Sections 27 and 35, seven miles south and six miles west of Alva, the county seat. The town is situated on County Roads E0220 and N2370. The Avard post office was established on June 1, 1895, and named for the postmistress, Isabell Avard Todd. The Avard Town Company was incorporated in 1904 when the St. Louis and San Francisco Railway, or Frisco, built lines westward from Enid, Oklahoma Territory, to connect with the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The town had the customary frontier business establishments, grocery and hardware stores, hotels, restaurants, barber and blacksmith shops, livery stables, saloons, grain elevators, and the Avard Tribune, a weekly newspaper.
The overly optimistic newspaper editor predicted Avard would have a population of thirty-five hundred within a year and that it and St. Louis would be the largest cities on the Frisco route. However, Avard only had 250 residents in 1909.

Red Herring!

5 Sep 1903: Phebe Fields bought lot 28 Oakvale Ceshe on 5 Sept, 1903.
Located in Kingfisher County, Oklahoma. The Buckmasters checked into selling it in 1961--apparently it was not used by the Fields.

Oakvale Cemetery, Columbia, Kingfisher County, Oklahoma.
Believed Phoebe purchased plot, but no one was buried in this cemetery. At least not her. Maybe her father?
Oakvale Cemetery is located of HWY 74--turn west before RR--6 mi west; 2
mi north; 1/2 mi west; northside of road.

Records show that a "Myers" was buried in Row 6, Lot 28, Oak Vale/Rigdon Cemetery in Columbia, Kingfisher, OK There is a metal marker without a name.

Subject: Re: Oak Vale Cemetery--help PLLEEEAASSSEEEE!

I went to the cemetery yesterday. I needed to go any way so no big problem. I was pretty sure that there was no marking for that grave [Phoebe Myers] as I did not list it when I read the cemetery. There are lots of small metal markers that helt printed names and dates from the funeral homes. That writing is long gone. Some of them have been moved even and are clustered around a big tree. There is to my knowledge no written record of the names for that cemetery. I am sorry. Lots of people did not at that time have money to buy a stone.
I did look at the other cemeteries in Kingfisher Co. list and I do not see them listed any where. As I said I am reading the old papers and may find them mentioned.
And there too unless they wanted to ride the 60 some miles on horse back they did not report a death. They would have to have crossed the Cimarron river and lots lost their lives doing that, even some horses drowned in that river at that time.
If you watch the listings for the county paper I am posting you may find mention of them later on. Reading the film is slow job. Mary [Genealogist].
