Zula Eunice Bond Herd Smith was born in Nobel, MO and graduated from Southwest Missouri State University with a Degree in Education. She belonged to the St. John's Methodist Church. In 1947 she married Walter Coleman Herd. He died on March 4, 1948. She married Roy Arthur Smith on Mar. 4, 1950. He died on Sept. 24, 1997. She is survived my her step-daughter, W. Irene "Cookie" Smith Dove of St. John, KS. She was a long-time resident of St. John and was a school teacher, homemaker, and the caregiver of her parents until the day they died.
