Harold "Jim" Broadwater of Westernport, MD passed away suddenly at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland, MD.

He was the son of the late Reuben Bond Broadwater and Ethel Florance (Broadwater) Broadwater. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Vernon and Eldred Broadwater; a granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Willis (2003); and a great grandson, Brycen Gene Willis (2010).

He worked for the B & O Railroad, Keyser, WV, as a machinist apprentice until drafted by the Army in 1951. He spent 18 months stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Upon his return, he resumed work for the railroad and completed his apprenticeship. In December 1954, he was hired by the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co., Luke, MD, and worked as a machinist. He retired in 1995 with over 40 years of service.

"Jim" attended Barton (MD) School until 10th grade, and graduated from Bruce High School (Westernport, MD) in 1948. He was the captain of the first Class C Basketball Champions at Bruce High (1948).

He was a member of the Allegany Beagle Club, Cumberland, MD, and presided in an official capacity as a judge for numerous beagle trials.

He was a former member of the Westernport Church of the Brethren, and most recently attended the First Assembly of God Church in Westernport.

Survivors are his wife of 60 years, Norma Lee (Moorehead) Broadwater, of Westernport, MD; 1 son, James Lynn Broadwater and wife, Debra, of Keyser, WV; 4 daughters, Karen J. Broadwater, of Baltimore, MD; Sharon K. (Broadwater) Wolfe, and husband, Dennis, of Bloomington, MD; Ruth Ann (Broadwater) Jones, of Westernport, MD; and Nancy L. (Broadwater) Kroll, and husband, Steven, of Bloomfield Hills, MI. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: Autumn Starr (Lease) Painter, of Frederick, MD; April Joy Lease-Grogan, of Jacksonville, FL; Amber Lynn Lease-Gordon, of Pasadena, MD; Alicia Renee Willis, of Westernport, MD; Austin Ryan Willis, of Westernport, MD; Dennis Leslie Wolfe II, of Bloomington, MD; Tracey Lynn Wolfe, of Bloomington, MD; Crystal Dawn Wolfe, of Westernport, MD; Jeremy Paul Kroll, of Bloomfield Hills, MI; and Heather Lynn Palacios, of Keyser, WV; and 13 great grandchildren, Andrew, Monica, Emily, Darrian, Cameron, Ethan, Ashton, Addison, Maddox, Blake, twins Bryson and Matthew, and Skyler. He also leaves behind 1 sister, Dolores (Broadwater) Curley, of College Park, MD; 4 brothers, Clyde Broadwater, of Barton, MD; Kenneth Broadwater, of Germantown, MD; Dr. Ronald Broadwater, of Cockeysville, MD; and Gary Broadwater, of Antioch, WV; as well as several in-laws, nieces, and nephews. "Jim" always said, "There are only 2 kinds of people in the world: Broadwaters and them that wish they were."

"Jim" enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors. He greatly anticipated the fall season because of his love for hunting. He was most passionate about his hunting cabin in Garrett County (MD), where he could enjoy the beauty of the different seasons. He taught his family to respect nature and exhibited his tremendous work ethic. He always said he would wear out the knees on his britches before he would wear out the seat of his pants.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, 111 Church St., Westernport, MD, on Saturday, March 24, 2012, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00.

A funeral service will be conducted at the First Assembly of God Church, 210 Maryland Ave., Westernport, MD., on Sunday, March 25, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Greg A. Hammond officiating. Viewing will be held 1 hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport, MD, with military honors.

Pallbearers will be his sons-in-law and grandsons.
