Phyllis Abbitt Arthur
Phyllis Abbitt Arthur, 75, of Rustburg, passed away December 21, 2012, with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, James "Jimmy" Edward Arthur.
Born July 24, 1937, in Amherst Co., she was a daughter of the late Charles W. Abbitt, and Blanche Callahan Abbitt.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Peggy Abbitt, Nancy Abbitt, and Virginia Burley; as well as a brother, Bill Abbitt.
She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She loved to cook, and Sunday dinner was a tradition in the Arthur home, a special time for her family to get together. Phyllis was retired from the Campbell County School System, after over 30 years of service, as a bus driver.
Survivors include three children, Teresa Lewis and husband Tommy, of Rustburg, Debbie Staton and husband Allen, of Forest, and Hank Arthur and wife Renee, of Evington; three sisters, Marie Wilkerson, of Amherst, Helen Ferneyhough, of Monroe, and Lilly Shirley and husband Charley, of Marietta, GA; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Lewis and wife Amy, Chad Lewis and wife Caison, Jessica Staton, and Lindsie Arthur; four great-grandchildren, Delaney, Landon, Aubrey, and Payton Lewis, other relatives and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m., tonight, Saturday, December 22, 2012, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 23, 2012, at Cumbie Memorial Cemetery, in Rustburg, by Pastor Mark Grooms.
