After graduating from school in Nebraska, he joined the US Air Force. On March 29, 1957, he married Kathryn Heaton in Roy, Utah. They lived in Denver, Colorado; Lyman, Nebraska; and Mitchell, Nebraska before moving to Ogden, Utah where he has resided since 1979. Kathryn passed away on September 7, 1993. A couple months later, he met and married Judith Mary Wright in Salt Lake City on May 20, 1994.
Dale loved the LDS Institute and graduated 5 times. He served an LDS Mission and served as the Ward Sunday School President. He was the manager of an office equipment company. His hobbies included woodworking, painting, photography, jewelry making, music and electronics. His greatest love was his family.
He is survived by his wife, Judith; sons, Ira Dale (Connie) Joy Jr.; Brian Earl (Janis) Joy; Roy Dennis (Emily) Cole; Gary (Shawna) Cole, and Jeremy W. (Mellyn) Cole; daughters, Eileen (Stephen) Bernards; Barbara Joy; and Julianne (Terry) Maxwell; 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; 5 brothers, and 2 sisters. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn; parents, and brother, Donnie.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Jackson Ward, 26th Jackson. Friends may visit family on Thursday from, 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
