Born in Long Branch, he lived in West Long Branch before moving to Whiting in 1995. He was a maintenance engineer for Bookbinder, Inc., Jersey City for 16 years, retiring in 1991. Prior to that, he was a sheet metal worker with Local 120, New Brunswick for 21 years. He was a member of the Crestwood Village I Golf Club and was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting.
He was predeceased by his sister, Gelsomine Wilder, in 1982; and his brother, Louis Acerra, in 2004.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marlene; five daughters and their spouses, Jeanne and Joseph DiGiacomo of Paupack, Pa., Marlene and Barry Duke of Estero, Fla. and Ocean Township, Laura And Marc Salemme of Cream Ridge, Lisa Looney and her fiancé, Joseph Meglio of Howell, and Mary Acerra of West Long Branch; one son and his spouse, Michael and Janine Acerra of Neptune; one brother, Samuel Acerra of Long Branch, eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
