John Joseph Melnik of Rondout Gardens, a World War II veteran and longtime union painter, died Sunday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Albany. He was 67. He had been employed through Local 255. He served in the Navy during the war and was a member of Kingston American Legion Post 150. He was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. His wife, Evelyn Larsen Melnik, and a son, John, died previously. He was born July 12, 1926 in Kingston, a son of Michael and Caroline Setera Melnik. Mr. Melnik is survived by a daughter, JoAnn Pierre of Pocono Pines, Pa.; two sisters, Mary Giovenco and Helen Reinhard, both of Kingston; four brothers, Peter, Joseph, Michael and Stanley, all of Kingston; three grandchildren, a great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church at a time to be announced. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
