"Lieut. Col. Alexander J. Dallas, retired, died in Washington yesterday. He was born in Washington D. C. and was appointed to the army from New-York. He began his career as a private in the volunteer service, from which he was appointed to the regular service as a Captain. He had a splendid army career. He was brevetted Major for gallant and meritorious services in front of Petersburg, Va. Before entering the army he served in the navy, and was aide de camp to Commodore Perry during the latter part of the Mexican war. As a civilian he served as Assistant Architect in Chief of Central Park, New-York City."
Alexander and Frances never had children of their own. They adopted Frances' two nieces, Catherine Elise Josephine deFrondat and Marie Louise Octavia deFrondat. The two girls mother, Carolina Rosella Masi deFrondat died at age 29.
