Our loving and kind Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother Lorna Helen Olsen Monsen passed away in her home of natural causes, surrounded by her loved ones on March 24, 2012 at the age of 88. She was a beloved wife, devoted mother, caring grandmother and a wonderful great grandmother. She was loved by her 3 children, their spouses, 11 grandchildren and 26 grandchildren.
She was born in Ucon, Idaho on February 14, 1924 to Ann Groom Olsen and Harvey Martin Olsen. She moved to Salt Lake City Utah at a young age and attended Salt Lake schools graduating from East High School in 1942. She married Kent B Monsen on September 3, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. They enjoyed a wonderful life together for 64 years and will be eternal sweethearts forever. Three children were very blessed to have her as a mother: Paul Kent Monsen (Judy), Heidi Jan Parkin (Brad) and Mark Scott Monsen (Linda) whom she loved dearly. She was a devoted member of the LDS faith, and served valiantly in numerous callings, including ward and stake Relief Society President, Primary President, Mutual Married Committee, Cub Scouts and various teaching positions. She served as a tour guide at Temple Square in Salt Lake City for 6 years. She was also active in civic affairs serving as PTA President of Olympus High School and mothers of Sigma Chi. Lorna enjoyed the out of doors with her family waterskiing, boating, jeeping, snow skiing, snowmobiling, camping, and traveling in the motor home. She was a good sport and a great example to her family who loved her dearly. She had many talents one being an accomplished artist.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her baby sister LaRue Olsen and sister Reva Christensen. She is survived by her sister Shirley Dastrup, brother Dene Olsen (Dorothy) and brother Dale Olsen (Carol). Her sweet smile and pleasant personality will never be forgotten. She is loved dearly and will be forever missed. She leaves a host of friends with fond memories of the activities and travelling experiences they shared with the TNT club. The family is grateful to Lucia Martin for the 3 years of tender loving care she extended to Lorna during her illness and Glenna Molyneux from Heartwood Healthcare.
A viewing will be held in her honor March 27, 2012 from 6 to 8 pm at Wasatch Lawn and Funeral services will be held at the Valley View First Ward, 2245 East 3900 South, Salt Lake City on March 28, 2012 at 12:00 noon with a viewing prior at 10:30-11:30 am. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, SLC Utah.
