Dr. Billy F. Johnson passed to his eternal reward on January 18, 2008. He was born in San Marcial, New Mexico on January 24, 1922. His early life was spent on the family cattle ranch where Billy was cowboy and broke wild horses.
He served in the Navy in WWII as captain of an LCT. After his honorable discharge in 1946 he settled in Seattle, WA and married his "hero" Joyce Lowe in 1955. She preceded him in 2003.
Billy spent 25 years teaching in the Seattle School District where he pioneered learning techniques and received his PhD in education in 1977. He retired in 1982 and spent time with Joyce carving NW Indian art and making baskets.
Billy is survived by his children, Billy T. Johnson, Margaret "Peggie" and Flapping Eagle Murphy and their children, Billy, David and Aquilla, Rikkie Ward, Jessy and Tom Hoag and their children, Kelsey, Katie and Charlie. Billy was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and a truly good friend to all.
A memorial celebration will be held at 1 p.m., February 16, 2008, at Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave, Mukilteo 98275.
