Brooks:-Dexter G. Brooks was born in Warren Co., Pa., March 9, 1820, and died Thursday April 12, 1908, at the home of his son, C. C. Brooks in Whiting, Kans., where he had gone a few weeks before on a visit. He celebrated his 88th birthday last March at the home of his daughter, mrs. M. Boyd in Clay Center, a few of his relatives being present to do him honor upon this occasion.

Mr. Brooks came to Kanss, Clay county, in the year 1875, locating on a farm near Oak Hill where he lived a good many years. He ws the father of eight children, two died in infancy and one passed away six years ago. Those who survive him are, Mrs. Luana Ives of Fairchild, Wis., Mrs. S. F. Hoffman of Manitou Colo., C. C. Brooks of Whiting, Mrs. Rose Boyd of Clay Center andf H. A. Brooks of Broughton. The remains were shipped to Clay Centr arriving here Friday afternoon accompanied by his son and the funeral was held at the Methodist church Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. R. M. Jackson of Broughton having charge of the services. The remains were laid to rest in the Greenwood cemetery beside his wife who died eighteen years ago.
