B. Joan Izzo, 78, loving mother and grandmother, passed away on May 20, 2006 at Lancaster Regional Hospital. She was born in Mechanicville, N.Y., and was the daughter of William and Beatrice Donahue. She was the wife of Stephen J. Izzo, who preceded her in death in 1997.

Joan graduated from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York. A longtime resident of Lancaster County, she was a dedicated wife, mother of four sons, and homemaker. In addition to caring for her family, she was an avid gardener and took great pleasure in seeing her ferns and hostas thrive in her garden. She was active in the community in her early years, and was a member of St. Leo The Great Catholic Church.

An accomplished artist working in many different mediums, she did some of her finest pieces with oils and her own highly stylized version Penn. Dutch Frakturs. She had a lifelong interest in art history.

She will be lovingly missed by her four sons, Marc S., of Elizabethtown, Christian J., of Mount Wolf, Matthew V., of Lancaster, and Paul X., of San Diego, Calif. Grandma Joan will be missed by her six grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601 on Friday, May 26, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at St. Joseph's New Catholic Cemetery following the service.
