DIES FROM ATTACK
Mrs. Pattie Bennett Shrum, aged 72 years, died almost suddenly while at the election on Tuesday of this week. She had gone to the voting place in the Third District of this county and was stricken suddenly and died in a matter of perhaps less than five minutes. She was the widow of Oscar Shrum, who died from a heart attack about three weeks ago. Surviving are one brother Donnie Bennett, of the same community; and one sister, Mrs. J. H. Ramsey, of Lebanon. She had a number of more distant relatives. Death was attributed to a heart attack to which she had been subject for some time, according to reports reaching Lafayette.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday by Elder F. W. Lambert, followed with burial in the family cemetery in the Green Grove section of this county. She was a good woman and was a member of Fairview Baptist church in the southwest corner of Macon county. She was the daughter of Robert and Alice White Bennett and was a native of this county.
So far as we have been able to learn this was the first death of a woman voter at the poles since women were granted the right of franchise.
