Carl H. "Deacon" Goddard, age 92, of 931 Garfield ave. SW, passed away Thursday evening in Molly Stark Hospital from complications following an extended illness. Born in Harriman, TN, he had been a resident of Canton for the past 66 years. He was a veteran of World War I having served in the U.S. Army in Co. M, 3rd Battalion Engineers. He was a retired iron worker. Preceded in death by three children. Survivors include his wife, Nelle Margaret Goddard of the home to whom he would have been married 68 years on Dec. 19; four sons, Howard A. of Rockhill, SC, Maxwell A. of Hampton, VA, Roy W. of Carrollton and Ronald L. Goddard of Boulder, CO; seven daughters, Mrs. Carlene Calhoun, Mrs. Melvene T. Westrich, Mrs. Joan Rinaldi, Mrs. Faye A. Harper, Mrs. Janet H. Stoneking and Mrs. Shirley E. DeSerin, all of Canton and Mrs. Linda K. Hunt of the home; 36 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.
