Al was employed by Anchor Thread, of Groveville; Circle F Industries of Trenton; Yates Industries/Circuit Foil of Bordentown; and DeLaval Turbine Inc. of Florence.
In the year 2000, Al was awarded with the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal, the state's highest military award. Al was very passionate about his time in service; he was the founder and served as Past President, scholarship chair and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Vietnam Veterans' of America; New Jersey Chapter 899. He was also a member of The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Fund. Al was an avid sports fan and deep sea fisherman, but his main purpose in life was helping his brother and sister veterans; He will be greatly missed.
The son of the late Alfred V. Colabella Jr. and Betty M. Colabella, he is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Edith A. Colabella-Kolodziej and Ron Kolodziej of Ewing; his brothers and sister-in-law, Robert C. and Mary Colabella of Murphy, N.C., Scott M. Colabella of Barnegat Light; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Calling hours will be Thursday, Mar. 29, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Bordentown Home for Funerals, 40 Crosswicks St., Bordentown, followed by a funeral service with Deacon Thomas Shea officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Bordentown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Al's name to the Vietnam Veterans' of America New Jersey Chapter 899, PO Box 263, Bordentown, NJ 08505; Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis Medical Center, Hamilton Ave., Trenton, NJ 08629, or the charity of your choice .
