Freddie H. Harper AGE: 79 • Neptune Freddie H. Harper, 79, of Neptune, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012, Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, NJ. He was born May 13, 1932 in Atlanta, GA to Rebecca and Alton Harper, Sr..He enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 18. He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran (two tours) with 26 years of service. His tours of duty took him throughout the United States and other overseas assignments.

He was predeceased by his parents,3 sisters, and 3 brothers.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Jimmie L. Harper of Neptune, NJ; 2 daughters, Vernell (Herbert) Grooms and Gladys Harper both of Atlanta, GA; stepson, Darrell (Lorine) Alston of Woodbridge, VA; 1 sister, Frankie Glenn; 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews of Atlanta, GA and friends.

Visiting hours will be from 10 am Saturday, February 25 until time of the service at 11 am at St. Stephens A.M.E. Zion Church, 1001 Springwood Ave, Asbury Park. Interment will be in Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. Burial with full Military Honors.



Born in Atlanta Georgia to Mr. Alton and Rebecca Harper. Ex-husband of Annie Mae Crawford Harper. Father of Vernell and Gladys Harper. Freddie passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. He enlisted in the United States Army at an early age. According to our mother, he was in his early 20's.. He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran with 26 yrs. of service. His tours of duty took him throughout the United States and other overseas assignments, including France, Korea, Japan, and Vietnam. His decorations and medals include: national Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Bronze Star Medal 2 Oakleaf Cluster, Army Commendation Mechanics Badge, and the Joint Services Award. He obtained the rank of CW3 (Chief Warrant Officer) before his retirement in 1976.He retired on June 30, 1976 in Ft. Hamilton-Brooklyn, NY.after a distinguished military career. Fred continued to work many years in Civilian Services, retiring in 1992. He was predeceased by his parents, Rebecca and Alton Harper, Sr; 3 sisters, Betty, Louise, and Addie Mae; 3 brothers, Charles, Eugene and Alton, Jr.(Kunk); and granddaughter, Tonya Yvonne Jones. Survivors are daughters, Vernell and Gladys, One sister; Frankie Mae Glenn, six grandchildren; Jennifer (Derrick) Maxey, Freddie T. Harper, Ebony (Johnny) Gandy, Yolanda Jones, Regina Miller, and Alexis (John) Taylor; all of Atlanta, Georgia and approximately 17 great- grandchildren.. He is deeply missed by his family here in Atlanta...He lived in Neptune, N.J.until his passing. But his home and family in Atlanta was always in his heart...
