He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Visiting at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until religious services at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Interment in Denham Springs Memorial Park. Survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Sandra Jones Chapman; mother, Sarah Sigrest; a daughter, Samatha Chapman and fiance Chris Deno; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jeremy and Tonia, Christopher, and Justin and Melanie Chapman; paternal grandmother, Sally Wunderlich; two brothers, Bobby Bales and Jay Cotham; two stepsisters, Angel and Candie Bales; a stepbrother, Michael Bales; three grandchildren, Zane, Brooke and Dorian; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his stepfather, Bob Bales.
