Mrs. Kjerstie Rye was born July 3,1846, in Valders, Norway. At the age of 19 years she came to America with her parents, Nels and Ingeborg Methus.
They settled in Dane County Wisconsin. Eight years later they moved to Fertile township where they secured land . She had been a resident of Worth County for over 50 years, spending the largest portion of 25 years with her son Clarence.
She was a mother of seven children, six sons and one daughter. One son, Johan, died in infancy. Nels, Henry and the only daughter Johnna died after reaching maturity. Their passing was a sad blow to this loving mother. Her husband died in 1886 leaving the widow with six children to raise.
Her health began to fail about 15 years ago. She was very patient in her illness.
She was noted for her hospitality. Her relatives and friends were assured of a welcoming hand and to share the comfort of her home. While struggling to raise her family she had great sympathy for the poor and needy.
She will be sadly missed by her children, their families and friends.
