Hill was an annual visitor to Dayton and Silver City where his father had operated a mine on the Comstock during the early days. Hill was killed in 1867 a half-mile from Silver City. His wife and two sons, Walter and George continued to reside in the vicinity for approximately 16 years.
Though he later lived in Florida and California, Hill annually made the trip to Nevada to visit his father's mine.
