Police officer Gary Davis, a 12-year veteran of the Bloomfield Township Police Department, was killed in the line of duty. He had pulled over a suspected drunk driver on southbound I-75. As he was crossing the lanes of the freeway to use a turnabout in the median to head north, his patrol car, with the suspect inside, was struck on the driver's side by another car at a very high speed. The driver of this car is believed to have been drunk.
Officer Davis was a member of the Police Officers Labor Council and the Sigma Pi Fraternity.
Officer Davis worked for t 3 years as a police liason officer for Lahser High School in Bloomfield Hills, where he was very well liked. He was very involved in many events at the school, such as homecoming, and athletic games.
His wife, Nicole, is a police officer with the Waterford Police Department.
