OBITUARY March 20, 1914 Unknown Newspaper

William D. Martin a pioneer of California and Father of Mrs. B. A. Ransch of Willows, Mrs. Tennessee Slater of Montana; Mrs. J. W. Bird of Sacramento; John Martin of Hamilton; Perry Martin of Oregon and William Martin of Woodland, died at the residence of Mrs. B. A. Ransch, Tuesday morning, from the effects of old age, he being 86 years old. He appeared to be conscious to the very last and was not only willing and prepared to go but said he was anxious to go. He said he had reached the end of his span of life and in his weakened and aged condition he could be of no help to others or no benefit to himself and that death would be welcomed. He had a very strong heart and his vitality even amazed the attending physicians. He was a native of Tennessee. The funeral took place from the Baptist Church at 10:30 o'clock Wednesday and Rev. J. C. Garth conducted the funeral ceremonies. The remains were taken to Woodland for burial. Most of the relatives were present for the funeral.
