He left Iowa and moved to California where, at some point, he began using the name Claude Adou. Carlos died in San Francisco, California, on 2/4/1955. He was cremated at Cypress Lawn, Colma, California, who held his ashes until his son, Rev. Carl "Carlos" Aveilhe traveled to California to take custody of them. Carl brought the ashes back to Burlington, Iowa, where they were interred in the family crypt, where they currently stand on a pedestal next to his wife Mary's cremains.
